You want something? Go get it.

I stumbled on this video today and wanted to share it.  Will Smith is amazingly and wonderfully intense and determined.  More of us need to be like that.

If you have a dream, go after it. You want something, go get it. Be determined. Believe in your own powers to create the kind of life you want. Make a difference.

Too many of us are afraid to try. Conquer that fear.  Rise above it.  Motivate yourself to move forward toward what you want in life.

In my opinion, the Internet has opened a massive amount of doors for everyone. Pick one and walk through it.

Have a great time with your life.

Chirp! Twitter Speaks

Biz Stone

In the early days of Twitter, Biz Stone (Co-founder of Twitter) said that he used to send out short updates just to keep everyone in the loop since so much was happening. I’ve been on Twitter since April 14, 2008, almost 2 years.

Well, I had signed up for  monthly updates from Twitter but it had been a while since I got any.  But according to Biz he realized it was time to start sharing more information and that he would update us.

I’m reporting this to you in case you don’t subscribe to Twitter updates.  What he wrote about is truly phenomenal!

First, Biz said they’ve had quite a year — and indeed they have!

Growing Up
In the course of a year, registered Twitter accounts have grown more than 1,500% and the Twitter team has grown 500%. Recently, they hired their 140th employee. His name is Aaron and he’s an engineer focused on building internal tools to help promote productivity, communication, and support within the company. They celebrated with a little dance party.

Features of Note
Biz reported some features of note that were released over the course of a year include the ability to create lists, quickly spread information with a retweet button, and an easier way to activate your mobile phone to work with Twitter over SMS. They also built a new mobile web site that looks and works much better on smart phones.

Feeling Inspired
By working together during critical times when others needed help, sharing important information that otherwise might not make the news, and inventing new and interesting ways to use Twitter, we’ve shown them that Twitter is more than a triumph of technology — it is a triumph of humanity. Projects like Fledgling and Hope140 were inspired by us, he said.

Chirp!
“While there may only be 140 full-time employees working at the Twitter offices, there are thousands of dedicated platform developers who have now created more than 70,000 registered Twitter applications creating variety and utility for all of us. We’ll be gathering this spring at Chirp, our first ever official Twitter developer conference,” Biz explains.

Thanks for the update Biz… keep them coming!

Print is not dead

“Print will live as long as the media can continue to provide an irreplaceable value.”

  • The annual number of paid subscriptions is nearly 300 million.
  • Magazine ad recall has increased 13% over the past four years.
  • Adults 18-34 read more issues than adults 35 and older.
  • The average reader spends 43 minutes reading each issue.
  • Readership has actually grown over the last five years.

I have to agree that the Internet will never kill print. I love leafing through magazines while I sit in a comfy chair, particularly in the morning while I drink coffee. I enjoy relaxing while taking in the stories, the graphics, and yes, even the ads… but since I’m a graphic designer and have worked at magazines in the past, I might be one of only a few that enjoy the ads. Ads, however, provide a rich source of information as well.

Print will never die. And rich media will only add options to the print industry, not replace it.

So, don’t give up on print. Advertising offline works, too!
