Twitter Success Requires Interaction
By mywebgal | December 9, 2009
If you’re trying to succeed in making contacts on Twitter there are a few things that you should be aware of. First, you need to realize that it’s not all about you! Interact with others. Retweet posts, respond to questions, ask questions, write @ replies. Your posts should be interesting, helpful, and social.
I can’t say with absolute certainty that no one would be interested in what you had for breakfast, lunch or dinner, but if it’s not particularly interesting, why chance it? Don’t be dull!
Your posts should reflect what you’re into, what you do for a living, what subjects you are knowledgeable in or researching.
Interesting web sites you find are always good to tweet about. As are news articles and blog posts… and not just yours!

Big numbers of followers may seem like a trophy, but if they don’t listen to what you’re saying, you’re not getting anywhere. The more followers you get, the more difficult it is to keep up. However, Twitter has recently added a “lists” option. You can add a list of those you want to follow more closely and keep your “public” tweets separate. That eases the pain of wading through thousands of tweeters to find something interesting, or something to respond to.
Don’t feel pressured to get tens of thousands of followers. Have fun with Twitter, make connections with those that interest you and be yourself.
P.S. You’re welcome to follow me on Twitter!
